Mechanicals

The engine gets the glory. The rest of the car still has to shift, steer, stop, hook, cool itself, meter fuel, make spark and survive whatever the driver decides to do next.

That is what Mechanicals is for. Transmissions and rear ends live here, but so do carburetors, steering systems, suspension pieces, brakes, ignition hardware, cooling tricks and the odd engineering solution that does not need a whole Learning Center chapter to be interesting.

As this section grows, those subjects can split into their own child hubs. For now they belong on the same workbench.

Bottom Line

Mechanicals is the short-form hardware bench. The Learning Center explains the whole system. These pages pick one transmission, one differential, one carburetor, one steering idea or one strange piece of engineering and explain why anybody cared about it.

If it bolts to the car and does a job, there is probably a Shop Talk story hiding in it.
