Ford Engine Specs

Intro

Ford engine specs have to be sorted by family before the numbers mean much. A Ford 351, 400, 410, or 427 does not tell the whole story by itself, and guessing by displacement is how the wrong parts get ordered with confidence.

Use this page to get into the right Ford engine family first. Then use the family page and individual displacement pages to confirm the actual engine, production range, bore, stroke, firing order, variants, and compatibility notes.

The family comes before the displacement. That rule keeps a 351 Windsor from getting confused with a 351 Cleveland or 351M, keeps a 400 Modified-side engine out of the wrong bucket, and keeps FE, MEL, and 385-series big blocks from getting treated like one universal Ford parts pile.

Start with the Ford engine family, then move to the displacement page. The family tells you which parts rules, identification clues, and compatibility limits belong to the engine in front of you.

A Ford displacement number by itself is only a clue. The family page is where the number gets context, and the individual engine page is where the details start proving or killing the story.
