You don’t verify a car by trusting memory, old forum noise, or whatever somebody swears was original. You verify it by checking the numbers, matching the parts, and knowing which spec actually applies to the job in front of you.
You need hard numbers, not folklore dressed up like experience. Torque specs, engine specs, transmission data, carburetor numbers, casting clues, and identification details all matter. Guess wrong, and simple work turns into stripped bolts, wrong parts, leaks, mismatched drivetrains, and jobs done twice.
Reality Check: Close enough is how parts get ruined. Look it up first. Then turn the wrench.
Displacement, bore, stroke, compression, horsepower, torque, production details, and family differences belong here. The badge on the fender is not a spec sheet, and neither is whatever somebody claims the engine is.
Gear ratios, case types, bellhousing patterns, pan shapes, outputs, electronics, and applications vary more than people admit. Check what you have before you build around the wrong box.
CFM, model family, calibration, choke type, linkage, fuel feed, metering style, and application details matter. Figure out what it is before you blame it.
That’s how threads strip, gaskets crush, and parts fail later. Right engine, right fastener, right process. Look it up before you turn a simple job into a repair bill.
