Intro
The Mopar RB big block is not just a B engine with a bigger number on the fender.
The 413, 426 wedge, and 440 share the raised-deck wedge family. Most B/RB wedge torque values are the same, but that does not make the parts the same. Intake fit, deck height, brackets, swap parts, rod hardware, and Max Wedge-style oddities can still turn “big-block Mopar” into an expensive guess.

1 Plain connecting rod bolts.
2 Heavy-duty connecting rod bolts.
3 Factory iron-head / iron-intake wedge value. Aluminum heads, aftermarket intakes, Max Wedge-style parts, special gaskets, or replacement fasteners use their own instructions.
4 Thin covers, carburetor flanges, and cork-style gaskets distort easily. Tighten evenly and do not turn seep control into bent metal.
Aftermarket bolts, studs, rods, aluminum heads, intake manifolds, roller rockers, replacement fasteners, and modified RB-engine hardware use the part maker’s number and lube instructions. Don’t use this chart to overrule the parts in your hand.
A range is not a game of horseshoes. If a matched set shows 50-55, don’t give one rod bolt 50, the next one 53, and the last one whatever your elbow liked. Pick one value in the range and use it consistently across the set unless the real procedure says certain fasteners get different numbers.

Notes
- RB means raised-deck wedge. The intake fit is one of the first places people get burned when B and RB parts get mixed.
- Do not let shared B/RB torque values convince you the engines are the same. Same clamp number does not mean same deck height, intake, brackets, or swap parts.
- Rod-bolt style matters. Plain and heavy-duty rod bolts do not use the same value, and “factory big block” is not enough information.
- Max Wedge, Six Pack, race, aluminum, and aftermarket top-end parts may change the hardware and the instructions. Follow the actual parts instead of the legend.
- Valve covers, oil pans, and carburetor flanges are easy to distort. If the gasket squeezes out, that was not extra sealing. That was you.

Common Mistakes
- Using B-series intake assumptions on an RB engine because both are big-block Mopars.
- Treating a 413 / 426 wedge / 440 like shared torque values mean shared parts.
- Using the plain rod-bolt value on heavy-duty rods, or the heavy-duty value on plain rods, because checking the bolts apparently felt optional.
- Using aftermarket head, intake, rod, or rocker hardware with factory torque numbers after the parts came with their own instructions.
- Cranking valve-cover, oil-pan, or carburetor hardware down like the gasket owes you rent.
- Reading a range and scattering random values across rod bolts, exhaust bolts, or matched driveline fasteners like that was ever a plan.

Bottom Line
The Mopar RB big block is the raised-deck wedge family, not a vague “bigger B.”
That shared B/RB torque chart is useful, but it is not permission to stop identifying parts.
Use the RB numbers, check the rod bolts, respect the raised-deck intake and hardware differences, keep matched fasteners consistent, and don’t let “big-block Mopar” do your thinking.
